MR Neurography with DTI

This case study we address several inquiries regarding MR Neurography with DTI.

Two of the most important advances in medical imaging of the last 20 years are covered under US Patent 5,560,360. The patent covers operational modification to MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanners that make it possible for a scanner to accurately visualize peripheral nerves in the body – a method called MR Neurography — the very same scanning technique licensed and used by The Neurography Institute.

The patent also covers the new field of Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and tractography that generate spectacular 3D color images of neural tracts as well as fiber structure. DTI is a technology that has been the subject of more than 5,000 research publications in the past four years and shows great promise for diagnosis in neuro-degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

The application of DTI allows MR Neurography studies to be completed with a greater attention to clinical application. For example, a MR Neurography scan will show soft tissue injury that predicates pain conditions. Now, with the added feature of DTI to the Neurography scan, the doctor is able to visibly distinguish between vessels and nerves. This is an important clinical clarification for treatment planning.

Currently, The Neurography Institute completes DTI on each MR Neurography completed at our Southern California location. For patients traveling to Los Angeles and wishing to take advantage of MR Neurography with DTI components, please ask for additional information through the Neurography Patient Coordinator when scheduling your appointment. Complete the form below, or call us at 877-724-6674.

As always, The Neurography Institute continues to develop and refine all of our techniques to provide the highest level of imaging quality to all our Nerve Scan Center locations.
