In this case study we meet a patient whose condition involves piriformis muscles that are slightly asymmetric where the right piriformis muscle has two lipomas; the larger more medial, the smaller more external and proximal lipoma.
There is no anatomical variant in that there is no passage of components of the sciatic nerve through the piriformis muscle; although, there is contact between the larger lipoma and the sciatic nerve as it approaches its exit of the sciatic notch.
The sciatic nerve itself does demonstrate a moderate increase in image intensity and also broadening and flattening as it exits the sciatic notch and descends through the ischial tunnel.
